Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Hypnotherapy Uses guided relaxation and focus to access the subconscious mind. It is often used for habits, anxiety, and pain management.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Object Relations Therapy Focuses on how early caregiver relationships shape current relationships. It aims to improve patterns of attachment and trust.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: After so many years in private practice I can integrate aspects of many approaches to meet your needs and particular style of working. The therapeutic relationship builds trust to develop a safe place to get help sorting out and from your concerns. There are many different roads to get there! So I’m eclectic in my approach with an interpersonal or attachment injuries individual, for example. Sometimes a person comes in and tells me of a particular approach they would like to try, and many times they know best how they make changes.

Nancy Hayes-Gary, Psy.D. Practice Description
I am probably one of the most available, responsive therapists you’ve encountered. I only see as many people as I can accommodate. Although in 30 years I have worked with just about every kind of issue, my passion is treating the whole person-cognitively, emotionally and somatically. You can feel better and to heal faster than you might think! Hypnosis is an excellent skill to acquire, and I can teach self hypnosis as tool for intense feelings or disturbing or intrusive thoughts. Therapy can greatly alter how you see and feel about yourself and your relationships.
