Counselor/Therapist, LPC
 therapist: Shelia King,
Online in Connecticut, North Carolina, South Carolina (Online Only)
My clinical focus is working with individuals affected by compulsive sexual behavior disorder and with their partners, who often experience profound betrayal trauma. I support clients in identifying the underlying factors that contribute to compulsive behaviors while also helping partners heal and set the appropriate boundaries to keep themselves safe as they heal. My approach is grounded in clarity, accountability, and healing for both individuals and relationships.

Treatment Approach

  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: I use an eclectic approach to therapy based on your individual needs. All interventions are evidence-based and research-based. As a Christian, I believe God wants to take the difficult, dark, and ugly things that have happened to us and give them meaning and purpose (Isaiah 61:3).

Therapy Sessions Shelia King Practice Description
My clients consistently share that my calm, nonjudgmental presence helps them feel safe, heard, and understood. Alongside clinical expertise, I bring the ability to meet each individual where they are, offering compassion and steadiness while also providing thoughtful challenge to support meaningful growth. I help clients develop a clear understanding of the experiences that have shaped their current circumstances, creating a foundation for lasting change. Recovery from sex addiction and partner betrayal is demanding and often overwhelming work. During moments when hope feels out of reach, I hold it with my clients and for them. I do so with confidence in the process and in their capacity to grow, trusting that through committed effort, individuals can move toward becoming healthier, more integrated versions of themselves.
