Treatment Approach
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
- Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
- Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
- Jungian Therapy Draws on Carl Jung’s ideas about archetypes, dreams, and the collective unconscious. It helps people explore deeper layers of meaning.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
- Sandplay Therapy Uses sand trays and miniature figures to allow symbolic expression. It is especially helpful for children and trauma survivors.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and client-centred. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy — instead, I draw on a range of approaches to meet you where you are and support the change you’re seeking through counselling and relationship therapy.
I work with frameworks such as Process-Oriented Psychology, Jungian shadow work, and inner child healing to help uncover the deeper layers of your experience. This means exploring not only your thoughts and behaviours, but also the unconscious patterns, roles, and emotions that may be shaping your relationships, anxiety, or personal growth.
Alongside this, I integrate Compassionate (Nonviolent) Communication (NVC) to build emotional safety, clarity, and connection — whether in couples counselling, family relationships, or your own self-relationship.
In practice, this work often means:
• Exploring triggers and unconscious dynamics that fuel conflict, anxiety, or stress
• Reframing inner criticism and self-talk into self-compassion and accountability
• Using embodied awareness to connect with your feelings, values, and boundaries
• Learning relational tools that support communication, trust, and intimacy
At its core, my approach is about creating a safe space for awareness, healing, and growth. Together, we slow down, listen closely, and illuminate what’s ready to shift. The result is not just short-term symptom relief, but a deeper sense of presence, authenticity, and resilience in how you live and relate.
“Uri created a safe space for both of us, guiding us toward relating respectfully and communicating compassionately.” — Client, 37, Melbourne.

I’m Uri Bookman — a trauma-informed relationship therapist, counsellor, and coach (PACFA Reg. 30041). I work with individuals and couples who want to move beyond stuck patterns, heal past wounds, and create deeper connection in their lives and relationships through counselling and couples therapy online.
Many of my clients appear successful on the surface, yet they often feel pressure, disconnection, or unresolved tension underneath. Some are couples caught in repeating arguments or cycles of silence. Others are individuals navigating anxiety, stress, or procrastination, weighed down by old stories. Whatever the entry point, the common thread is a desire for more clarity, calm, and meaningful change.
My approach blends therapy and coaching, drawing on frameworks such as Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Process-Oriented Psychology, and men’s work, alongside years of therapeutic practice. This means our sessions are both reflective and practical: a safe space to explore what’s beneath the surface, while also learning tools you can use immediately in daily life. Clients often describe my style as compassionate, clear, and grounding — with a focus on safety, accountability, and practical tools for healthier relationships.
I support people with:
• Relationship counselling: conflict, communication breakdowns, and intimacy issues
• Anxiety therapy: stress, overwhelm, and inner pressure
• Trauma and grief support: healing unresolved emotional wounds
• Personal growth: moving through procrastination and blocks
• Men’s issues: purpose, presence, and authenticity in relationships
• Couples therapy: rebuilding trust and strengthening connection
Therapy is not about fixing you — it’s about reconnecting you with your own capacity for change. Together, we’ll slow down, illuminate what’s keeping you stuck, and create new ways of relating to yourself and others. The goal isn’t quick fixes, but lasting transformation rooted in compassion, awareness, and choice.
I currently offer secure online therapy across Australia and New Zealand, with many of my clients based in Melbourne and Sydney. Online sessions allow us to work together wherever you are, in the comfort of your own space, while still building a strong and meaningful connection.
