Adela Stone (She/Her)

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, LPCC
 therapist: Adela Stone,
Online in California, Florida (Online Only)
I’m a couples therapist working online across California and Florida. Many couples come to me feeling stuck, unseen, or like they’re speaking different languages. Sometimes there’s neurodivergence (ADHD, autism), past trauma, or years of miscommunication that usual advice doesn’t touch. My style is direct, compassionate, and real—I bring humor, honesty, and respect into sessions while helping you uncover the patterns beneath conflict. I specialize in helping partners reconnect, improve intimacy, and rebuild trust. You don’t have to be perfect or throw away your life together to reclaim closeness and resilience. If you’re ready to move past surface fixes and find a deeper way forward, I’d love to support you in creating a relationship that feels like “us” again.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Imago Relationship Therapy Helps couples understand how childhood experiences influence adult relationships. It teaches communication techniques to deepen connection.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach is active, collaborative, and human. I don’t just nod and listen—I help you identify stuck patterns and practice new ways of connecting in real time. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Relational Life Therapy, Attachment Theory, and the Gottman Method tools, along with training in trauma-informed and neurodivergence-affirming care. You’ll find me direct, warm, and sometimes playful, because I believe therapy should feel real and alive. I bring my own lived experience of resilience, cultural difference, and loss into the room, which helps me connect with couples facing unique challenges. Together, we focus on creating security, rebuilding trust, improving intimacy, and finding practical strategies for communication. My goal is to guide you toward deeper understanding and lasting change so your relationship becomes a source of strength, not stress. I have a lot of "tricks" up my sleeve that help couples reconnect and thrive. I work with each couple and make sure that my approach will match their thinking and learning styles the best. The way I work with couples is ever evolving and specialized. It can also be helpful to pivot to a different therapy approach as we work together more and understand each other better.

I work with couples online throughout California and Florida who want more than quick fixes. Many of my clients are navigating cultural differences, neurodivergence (ADHD, autism), trauma histories, intimacy struggles, or long-standing patterns of conflict. In therapy, I help you slow down and see what’s really happening underneath the arguments so you can stop fighting the same battles. I integrate evidence-based approaches with a down-to-earth, compassionate style. My goal is to create a space where both partners feel seen, understood, and supported—even when the relationship feels at its hardest. Together, we work on communication, trust, intimacy, and resilience so your relationship can withstand life’s challenges. Therapy with me isn’t about perfection; it’s about building a stronger foundation that makes you feel more connected and less alone.
