Amira Doucette

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years experience. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Michigan and Oakland University, respectively. I furthered my formal education with a post-Master's degree specialization in mental health. I'm also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). For the last five years, I've been exclusively an online therapist. In my work as a psychotherapist, I've encountered many people of various nationalities and socioeconomic standing. As I've helped them with their concerns, I repeatedly find the single most important conduit to change is the relationship we forge in therapy. In this relationship I am without judgment: I am respectful, understanding, and accepting. In my practice, I use a variety of therapeutic methods, also known as an eclectic approach, which I tailor to the specific needs of each client. That said, I do try to incorporate appropriate humor in my sessions, the key word being appropriate. Regardless of one's presenting problem, whether it's depression, mania, anxiety, trauma, grief, or relationship, sexual, acculturation or emancipation issues, my goals for my clients are as follows: 1) to recognize they're more than their problems, 2) to learn to laugh and appreciate themselves as well as their unique situations, and 3) to become more confident and capable human beings.
