Approach Description: Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a practical and non-judgmental model of psychotherapy that has gained popularity in recent years. Developed by Dr Richard Schwartz in the 1980s, IFS helps therapists understand individual and collective human systems in new ways. With growing evidence-based research and increased interest from Australian psychologists, IFS is becoming a preferred treatment method for many therapists. Dr Bessel van der Kolk has even endorsed IFS as "the treatment method that all clinicians should know to treat clients effectively.”

Crawf Weir Psychotherapy Practice Description
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is based on the premise that every person has different 'parts' within their psyche, and these parts play various roles. While some of these parts can be beneficial, others may not be. Life events and traumatic experiences could push our parts into extreme roles. However, the good news is that these internal roles are flexible and can be modified with time and effort. An essential principle of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is the belief that every person has the innate ability to heal themselves, regardless of the level of trauma or suffering experienced. This ability stems from our inner Self, an untouched and pure essence that we are born with and cannot be damaged. Even though we may not always recognise and experience it, we all carry this essence. The ultimate goal of IFS therapy is to help individuals find their true Self and integrate all their parts. As a result of our work together, you will gain clarity on the issues you're working through, understand and appreciate your inner world, heal any wounded parts of yourself, and increase your Self-energy. Benefits of Therapy - Self-awareness and Insight: Explore and understand your thought patterns. - Emotional Regulation: Become less reactive and more responsive. - Heal Interpersonal Relationships: Resolve conflict and make peace. - Empowerment: Reclaim control over your life through self-compassion. - Trauma Resolution: Process past traumas and develop a path to healing.
