Dr. Eric Fields

Psychologist, PsyD
 therapist: Dr. Eric Fields,
Online in Florida, New York (Online Only)
I help high-achieving professionals end their COMPULSIVE GAMBLING or GAMBLING ADDICTION. The traditional approaches to treating gambling addiction do not work for many people, and the philosophy of Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is often not a good fit for higher-functioning, compulsive gamblers. I offer a new approach to addressing gambling addiction problems related to sports betting, options/day/crypto trading, online casino/video games, poker, etc., one that is very flexible and individualized, not based off of antiquated ideas, and an alternative to the very dogmatic philosophy of Gamblers Anonymous (GA). I use my wealth of experience that I have gained throughout the years as well as a host of evidence-based strategies to really help you make the best possible progress. Most importantly, I work with whatever goals are meaningful to you and treat all of your problems and concerns (as your compulsive gambling behavior is very often not your only struggle or issue).

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: I use a variety of approaches that collectively address your problematic and unhealthy gambling behavior, thoughts/mindset, and feelings, as well as improve your social/interpersonal, occupational, recreational, and/or academic functioning and fulfillment. The ultimate goal of my collective approach is creating the best possible version of yourself (without changing who you fundamentally are as a person). Also, I am open to working towards all types of goals regarding your gambling, such as either abstinence, moderation, or a significant reduction in this behavior.
