I believe therapy is special place where we can reflect, learn, and grow. I work through a relational lens to build a bond with clients to understand what they are seeking from therapy so we can establish goals to get them there. In my work, I integrate elements of dance/movement therapy to honor the whole person and bring focus to both the mind and the body to assist clients to creatively explore themselves cognitively and somatically.

Treatment Approach
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Dance / Movement Therapy Uses movement and body awareness to express emotions and improve mental health. It can increase confidence, reduce stress, and support healing.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
- Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
- Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
- Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I work from a collaborative and relational lens to meet clients where they are at and understand what they are seeking through therapy. As a couple and family therapist I work with clients to understand and establish goals and work towards those together. I work experientially and see the therapy room as the place to grow awareness, learn, and practice new skills that will help clients achieve their goals. I integrate interventions from expressive arts therapies and utilize my knowledge of dance/movement therapy to connect with clients to incorporate awareness and education of non-verbal communication and one's somatic experience. Through working this way, I seek to provide care that focuses on the mind/body connection and cares for the whole person.

At the heart of Maria Droste Counseling Services are four VALUES that provide the foundation of our Mission: Acceptance, Respect, Compassion, Healing.
Acceptance of oneself is the cornerstone of the ability to respect oneself so that one can respect others, which allows for compassionate action and promotes healing. We live these values first in ourselves so that we can hopefully be a healing presence for our clients by our demeanor, words, and actions. These are the values cultivated, practiced, and lived by our founders, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, and we are privileged to follow in their footsteps and continue their example.
