Psychologist, Ph.D.
 therapist: Emilia Eva Mikrut,
In-Person in Manhattan, NY 10016
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in providing care to neurodivergent folks, military veterans, STEM professionals/academics, and those experiencing grief. I work well with people who struggle with feeling like outsiders, who worry about whether or not they belong, and who can't seem to connect with others in the way they'd like. My prior professional experiences include working within Ivy League college counseling, the VA healthcare system, and community mental health. I see clients primarily in-person at my office located in NoMad, Manhattan.

Treatment Approach

  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy emphasizes relationships above all else. My style has been described as warm, accepting, authentic, and engaging. In clinical terms, I would describe myself as an integrative relational psychodynamic therapist. "Relational and psychodynamic" means that I work collaboratively with clients from a place of non-judgmental curiosity to explore how earlier life experiences, important relationships, and cultural/societal messages have influenced their connection with their own emotions, their beliefs about themselves, and their expectations of others. By paying close attention to what unfolds in the therapeutic room - including in our therapeutic relationship itself - I help clients better understand and challenge unhelpful relational patterns. "Integrative" means I also flexibly blend other orientations into my practice to most effectively work on what's troubling any particular client. I am influenced by existential theory and pay special attention to the ways in which people make meaning. In a way, my work often focuses on 'poking at' and uncovering what clients are avoiding in their lives and cultivating more comfort with the unknown. I also occasionally draw upon cognitive-behavioral approaches including mindfulness-based work, ACT, and experiential/behavioral exposures, particularly when clients need a gentle more push toward change.
