Erika Barrington (They/Them)

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, BC-DMT
 therapist: Erika Barrington,
Online in Pennsylvania (Online Only)
Hi! I’m Erika (they/them). I’m guided by curiosity, play, and the belief that there's always a reason why we act the way we do. Even if it doesn't make sense to us at first, I find that when I help clients explore their internal world with curiosity, we discover how resourceful and creative they had to be to get to this point. I also believe strongly that inside of us we embody a microcosm of larger systems around us. Once we bring awareness to these internal dynamics, we then have the opportunity to release and relearn ways to show up in the world that center our innate gifts and our connection to all living things. Social Location: I am a white, queer, genderqueer, neurodivergent, a non-gestational parent, and am not living with a physical disability right now. I hold awareness of the ways that my class privilege, college education, and white body privilege have shaped my experience of various mental health struggles and ADHD. I feel most excited about life when I’m doing something creative and intentional with people (line dancing, singing, making collages) and most aligned with my purpose when I’m helping adults to play/move/create as part of their healing/recovery.

Treatment Approach

  • Dance / Movement Therapy Uses movement and body awareness to express emotions and improve mental health. It can increase confidence, reduce stress, and support healing.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Social Constructionist Therapy Looks at how social and cultural context shapes identity and problems. It helps clients create new narratives of meaning.
Approach Description: The ADHD nervous system thrives on movement, creativity, and relational warmth — and my approach is built around that. Dance/movement therapy brings your whole embodied self into the room; IFS creates space for compassion and curiosity toward every part of you; and a deep grounding in ADHD helps me fold psychoeducation naturally into our work together.

Erika Barrington Practice Description
My practice helps adults with ADHD (and many others) first identify which challenges in their life might be ADHD-related, and which emotional patterns might be intertwined with their ADHD symptoms (ex/ rejection sensitivity, self-criticism, hopelessness). We then combine some tailored strategies for ADHD, with therapeutic support for the parts of you that may be carrying emotional pain or trauma. ADHD doesn't mean something's wrong with you — it means the systems around you weren't designed with you in mind. The therapy I do blends education, creativity, and real healing - to help you stop fighting with yourself and start befriending your brain.
