My work is especially helpful for people who have already done therapy and can explain their patterns — but still feel stuck inside them. Many of my clients are thoughtful, self-aware, and capable in their daily lives, yet their nervous system stays on alert. They manage, analyze, and hold things together for everyone else, but it’s exhausting. I focus on helping change happen at the level reactions actually live, not just at the level of insight. Alongside EMDR, I use attachment-based and parts-oriented work so we can understand the protective strategies your mind developed and help your body learn that it no longer has to stay braced. Therapy with me is collaborative and steady; we move at a pace your system can tolerate rather than forcing breakthroughs. Clients often tell me the difference they notice is that they don’t just understand themselves more — they feel less on edge in everyday situations. The goal isn’t to become a different person. It’s to stop having to manage yourself all the time.

Treatment Approach

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
Approach Description: I primarily use EMDR therapy along with attachment-based and parts-oriented approaches. Many clients I see have already gained insight through previous therapy but notice that their body and reactions haven’t changed in the same way. EMDR helps process experiences that the nervous system still treats as present-day threats, allowing responses to update rather than relying only on coping strategies. I also incorporate parts work to understand protective patterns such as overthinking, people-pleasing, or emotional shutdown. Instead of trying to eliminate these reactions, we understand what they developed to protect and gradually help your system learn safer alternatives. Treatment is paced carefully and collaboratively. We do not force exposure or push for emotional intensity faster than your system can integrate. The aim is regulation and integration — feeling more grounded in everyday situations, relationships, and your own internal experience.

Heather Curry Practice Description
Many people who reach out to me are capable, thoughtful adults who have spent years holding things together. They tend to be self-aware and often understand where their patterns come from, yet their reactions still show up in the same ways — overthinking at night, staying on alert, taking responsibility for others’ emotions, or feeling unable to fully relax even when life is objectively okay. My practice focuses on helping the nervous system catch up to what you already know. Rather than only talking about problems, we pay attention to how they live in the body, in expectations, and in automatic reactions. Therapy becomes a place where you no longer have to manage yourself alone. I work especially well with anxiety that looks high-functioning from the outside, trauma patterns that keep repeating in relationships, chronic overthinking, and the exhaustion that comes from always being the dependable one. Sessions are collaborative and paced carefully so change feels steady rather than overwhelming. The goal isn’t to analyze you into awareness — it’s to help your reactions actually begin to settle so daily life requires less effort.
