Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

Ilana Blumenkranz Practice Description
Ilana is a Registered Psychotherapist providing individual, couples, and family therapy to adolescents and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds. She supports clients navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, addictive behaviours, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, grief and bereavement, complex family dynamics, co-dependency, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other mental health concerns. Ilana is a trained EMDR therapist and integrates EMDR into her work with clients experiencing trauma, attachment wounds, and distressing life events. She understands that unresolved experiences can shape patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating, and she works collaboratively with clients to process these experiences in a safe and structured way. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and respect for each person’s unique story. Ilana helps clients identify the underlying issues contributing to their distress while developing practical tools to foster resilience, self-awareness, and meaningful change. She believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing; each individual experiences pain and adversity differently.
