Having experienced how mental health can create life-altering implications on people in my family, I have dedicated my life to trying to help as many people and families have the support and resources needed to experience growth, hope, and healing. Often I work with clients who express frustration with past counseling experiences being stale and feeling as though they talked and talked but never experienced real change. Knowing from my training and experience that most people can experience the type of change they desire, I approach counseling as a guide to help those I work with discover what has been holding them back and a tangible plan to experience their goals. Counseling should result in real change and it can be a good and even, at times, a fun process that we look forward to.

Family Matters Counselors approach the therapeutic process from a holistic perspective; we are each an interwoven masterpiece of mind, body, and spirit. We use an eclectic approach of clinical and spiritual principles as needed for the client to move forward in making a positive life change according to their goals. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is the foundational therapy used in my eclectic approach to counseling, which means I use many different styles and techniques. I see great resources and tools in a variety of theories and use what will be most beneficial at the time for the client. Likewise, I am trained in EMDR, which is a tremendous tool in trauma recovery.
Typically a session will last about 45-50 minutes, but just like being physically fit, one 50-minute trip to the gym does not get us to our goals. As a result, you can expect some homework to help develop some mental, emotional, and spiritual muscles. Counseling is typically not intended to last forever, although a good counselor is someone worth holding on to because life is a dynamic, ever-changing journey. So, we will seek to make progress toward your goals in a healthy timeframe. After which moving into a check-up mode periodically and meeting more consistently, as needed, during specific seasons of life.
