Treatment Approach

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
Approach Description: EMDR Therapy: Once your internal system feels stable and prepared, we utilize EMDR to target and process the raw, painful memories driving your current triggers. This allows your brain to finally file the past away as "history," taking the emotional charge out of your daily life. Parts Work (IFS-Informed): We look safely and without shame at the different, conflicting sides of you. We identify the parts of your system that feel stuck, exhausted, or deeply disconnected (structural dissociation/DID). Instead of fighting these defense mechanisms, we seek to understand their protective roles, calm internal warfare, and restore self-leadership. Family Systems Therapy (EFT informed): We look at the space between members of a family and work together to de-escalate entrenched patterns, build better communication skills, and create a new way of working through friction safely.

Jon Roberts Practice Description
Trauma is rarely an isolated event, it lives in systems. It fragments our internal system—splitting us into conflicting parts, causing us to dissociate, shut down, or use addictive behaviors to survive. And it disrupts our external system—hijacking our marriages, flooding our parenting with unexplainable reactivity, and turning our homes into stressful environments. If you feel like your mind is an unsafe place to be, or if your family is caught in a cycle of constant dysregulation, standard talk therapy might not be enough. Analyzing the past won't change how your nervous system reacts today. As a Systemic Trauma Therapist with 21 years of experience in mental health, I provide an active, structured, and deeply collaborative space designed to heal deep wounds from the inside out. My practice is built around advanced, evidence-based trauma modalities that go beyond the surface: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Parts Work (Internal Family Systems-informed therapy). When we experience overwhelming stress or past abuse, our brains often store those memories in fragments. To survive the pain, our psyche naturally creates "parts" to protect us—parts that might resort to intense anxiety, perfectionism, rage, or substance use to keep the deeper hurt buried. By combining EMDR with Parts Work, we don't just talk about your symptoms; we actively transform them. Healing requires an environment where your nervous system can genuinely settle. If you are experiencing screen fatigue and telehealth isn't a good fit, I welcome you to my Westminster, CO office. It is intentionally styled to look and feel like a peaceful, warm family room rather than a sterile clinic. (Secure online therapy is also available for clients across Colorado who require flexibility).
