F. Monroe Spivey (She/Her)

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, MA, BMP, LCMHC
 therapist: F. Monroe Spivey,
North Carolina (Online Only)
In relationship we are wounded, and in relationship we are healed. It’s both my professional and personal experience (because even I, as a therapist, have my own therapist!) that the singular most powerful predictor of successful therapy is the safe and supportive relationship between client and therapist. A therapist can be the most skilled and talented practitioner in the world, with all of the credentials, training, and certificates — yet if the client doesn’t feel authentically seen, heard, cared for and supported by the therapist — no intervention is going to land. My passion lies in co-creating a safe and sacred space with my clients such that they are able to reveal their deepest vulnerabilities, take off the masks, and reclaim the power of who they truly and authentically are, before the trauma and the wounding of the world took hold.

Treatment Approach

  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
  • Transpersonal Therapy Integrates spirituality and higher states of consciousness with psychology. It encourages growth beyond the individual self.
Approach Description: Your story is unique — so too, will be my approach in our sessions. I do not take a “one-size fits all” approach to therapy. Rather, I tailor my approach to your specific needs and the wisdom of the present moment, utilizing both my training and intuition to co-create new and empowered experience. My approach to treatment is integrative and holistic. I often integrate Somatic Experiencing (somatic, body-based modality for healing trauma and nervous system regulation), Mindfulness-Based Interventions, nature-based & rites of passage work, Internal Family Systems & parts work, journal therapy, inner-child work, & more.
