When anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship challenges begin affecting your everyday life, it can be difficult to know what needs to change or where to begin. Perhaps you're struggling with emotions that feel difficult to manage, navigating a major life transition, or noticing patterns in your relationships that leave you feeling disconnected or overwhelmed. I work with teens, adults, elder adults, and couples who want to better understand what they're experiencing and develop healthier ways of responding to life's challenges. My approach combines practical coping strategies with deeper emotional exploration, drawing from ACT, CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness, and somatic approaches. Together, we can explore the patterns influencing your thoughts, emotions, and relationships, strengthen communication and emotional regulation, and work toward changes that reflect your needs, values, and goals.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy considers the connection between your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and physical experiences. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, and somatic approaches to understand what may be contributing to the challenges you're experiencing. Depending on your needs, our work may involve identifying patterns in your thinking and behavior, processing difficult emotions, developing coping and emotional regulation skills, or exploring how stress and anxiety affect your body. I also incorporate strategies that help you reconnect with your values, strengthen communication, and respond differently to circumstances that may feel outside your control. Rather than following a rigid treatment model, I tailor our sessions to your experiences, priorities, and goals. My intention is to balance meaningful reflection with practical tools you can use outside of therapy, helping you build greater self-awareness and make changes that feel realistic and sustainable.

Sonia Hassan Practice Description
Life doesn't always change in ways we anticipate. Sometimes the challenges build gradually, while other times a significant loss, relationship difficulty, health concern, or unexpected transition leaves you feeling uncertain about how to move forward. You may find yourself managing anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, or patterns in your relationships that have become difficult to navigate. I work with teens, adults, elder adults, and couples experiencing a range of emotional and relationship challenges. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, health anxiety, Somatic Symptom Disorder, chronic pain, caregiver stress, emotional regulation, self-esteem, communication difficulties, and major life transitions. Working With Individuals For teens, therapy may involve navigating anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, self-esteem, changing relationships, and the challenges of growing independence. I help teens better understand their emotions, communicate their needs, and develop practical strategies for managing difficult situations. With adults and elder adults, I work with concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, caregiving responsibilities, chronic pain, health-related stress, relationship difficulties, and significant life changes. Our work may involve processing loss, adjusting to changing circumstances, strengthening boundaries, or developing ways to manage emotional and physical stress. I also work with individuals experiencing health anxiety and somatic symptoms, helping them explore the relationship between physical sensations, emotional distress, and patterns of worry while developing healthier ways of responding to these experiences. Working With Couples Relationships can become difficult when communication breaks down, recurring disagreements remain unresolved, or partners begin feeling emotionally disconnected. I work with couples who want to better understand the patterns affecting their relationship, strengthen communication, and develop healthier ways of navigating conflict and change. Our sessions may involve exploring how each partner experiences and responds to stress, identifying recurring communication patterns, strengthening emotional awareness, and creating more intentional ways of connecting with one another. What You Can Expect Therapy with me is collaborative and shaped by your individual circumstances. I value your perspective and believe you should have an active role in identifying your goals and determining what feels helpful throughout the process. Some sessions may involve deeper reflection and emotional processing, while others may focus on practical strategies you can apply in your everyday life. We will regularly revisit your goals and adjust our work as your needs evolve. I offer in-person appointments at Marriage.Family.Therapy in Woodinville, Washington, as well as secure telehealth sessions throughout Washington State. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and your experiences, develop skills that support your emotional well-being, and make changes that feel meaningful and sustainable in your life.
