Couples seeking to enhance their communication skills & mutual understanding, while connecting and bonding at deeper levels will benefit from either a Hold Me Tight group or Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), the most emperically tested and validated form of couples therapy. EFT focuses on the communication process to provide couples with the insights and tools to be able to talk about anything in a way that brings you closer together. Those interested in pre-marital counseling or looking into a variety of areas of conflict may chose from SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) or Prepare and Enrich program. Both of these offer an online assessment tool which reveals areas of differences. Family therapy is a dynamic, interactive process that assists families in building resillience and cohesion as they work through the issues that stress individuals or strain their relationships. The focus might be to help parents support their child struggling with ADHD, disabilities, or other issues. A variety of methods may be incorporated depending on the ages of the children and interests of the family. Individual therapy centers around the client's expressed areas of concern and desire for growth. It is a dynamic partnership in processing life, building a stronger sense of self, challenging negative patterns of thoughts or behavior and developing the personal skills to cope productively with stress, communicate effectively in all areas of life, building resillience, processing trauma, grief, and loss, and decreasing trauma reactivity. For those desiring Christian counseling, I will integrate a Biblical perspective into the process of our work together. As the wife of a Vietnam Veteran, I understand the effects of war trauma on individuals, couples, and families. Studies show that family support and resilience can play a huge role in mitigating the traumatic symptoms. The fact that the VA does not provide these services to help military families stay together is one reason I sought this training. Post Traumatic Stress affects the entire family. With proper intervention and support, these families can become resilient, self-healing systems instead of casualties of divorce.
