I believe that every person, no matter their circumstances or struggles, has a valiant mind. Therefore, I believe that each of my clients are the experts of their own life and that my job is to meet each client wherever they currently are on their journey and to walk alongside them in order to help facilitate growth and change. In 2004, I graduated from Chatham University with a Masters in Counseling Psychology and have since gained extensive experience in the treatment of adult and childhood psychological and neurobehavioral disorders. My sessions predominantly use cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, where I help my clients to understand how their thoughts affect their feelings and behaviors. I also use other psychotherapy techniques that provide comprehensive perspectives to my clients and enhance mind, body such as positive psychology, existentialist philosophy, and mindfulness meditation. My goal is to help my clients broaden their awareness, challenge problematic patterns, learn healthy coping skills, live mindfully and confidently, and seek their unique version of joy. Above all, I am committed to creating therapeutic relationships that are built on trust, respect, transparency, empathy, honesty, and equality, and I always counsel from a nonjudgmental place of understanding and compassion.

Treatment Approach

  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Neuropsychology Examines how brain function affects thinking, memory, and behavior. It often involves assessment and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Play Therapy Uses toys, games, and creative play to help children express emotions. It is especially useful when children can’t fully verbalize their feelings.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

Valiant Minds Counseling, P.C. Practice Description
I specialize in working with diverse individuals, especially individuals and families who are navigating through challenges and who are experiencing anxiety and stress, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, obsessive negative thoughts, and depression. I also specialize in working with individuals and their families who have neurological differences, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. Most clients with attention deficit disorders know that their struggles go beyond simple problems with concentration. At Valiant Minds we provide a warm and understanding environment to help individuals learn skills to improve their everyday lives. I believe therapy needs to be conversation-tailored to meet your specific needs. Collaboration is key and my goal is to help my clients learn skills and strategies to increase coping and find peace.
