Spiritual therapy is a type of therapy that helps individuals find inner peace. It is based on the belief that each person has a spirit that needs to be nourished in order for them to lead a fulfilling life. Spiritual therapy can take many different forms, but it typically includes some form of meditation or prayer. It may also involve journaling, spending time in nature, or talking to a therapist about your spiritual beliefs.

Spirituality is a very important aspect of life for many people. For individuals with a very developed spiritual life working with a therapist who is understanding and supportive of their spirituality can be very helpful. For others who may be wanting to connect more deeply with spirituality it can be useful to include that as a focus within the therapy. As a psychotherapist I am very comfortable working with people with a wide range of spiritual beliefs. Sometimes I have knowledge about the the spiritual beliefs the person finds meaning in and other times my clients educate me bout spiritual topics and views I don't yet know about. My approach is to be highly supportive of incorporating spirituality into the therapy. Rather than trying to impose my own spiritual views or beliefs I strive to understand the beliefs and practices that have meaning to my clients and to help them to find ways of connecting with and using those beliefs to support them in their daily lives. Personally, I find a great deal of value from my study and practice of Buddhism. I am glad to engage with clients about Buddhist ideas and practices if these have meaning to the person but I only do so when invited, and in doing so I strive to find ways of it supporting the client's therapy.
