Couples come in thinking they are going to tell me everything that is wrong with their partner and to fix them. I help individuals realize how their own actions can change the outcome. Once everyone focuses on doing their own work, then they see the desired outcome in the relationship. It sounds uncomfortable, but it's really a lot of fun and we laugh a lot.
