What we think of ourselves matters. It’s the place from which we move through our world. It affects what we think, what we feel, and how we relate to other people. There are many things that affect our self-esteem. Together we will explore what may be in the way of your self-esteem and work to strengthen how you think and feel about yourself.

Low self esteem and a poor self image, which can get to a point for some people of self-hatred, erodes your life. In spite of achievements, you never feel good enough, and can't feel truly at peace. Because poor self esteem is often a lifelong problem, it can be very hard to resolve on your own. It is often related to trauma in childhood. When I work with clients who struggle with low self esteem, I want to understand how they came to the belief that they are generally not good enough. We also will look at how habits of thought, feeling, behavior, and self care may be reinforcing a negative self image, and work on making changes so a positive self image can be reinforced instead.

Many of my clients who struggle with self-esteem feel inferior to other people. They may find themselves constantly comparing themselves to other people. They may struggle to manage eating habits and exercise and feel negatively about their bodies. I work with clients to understand the root of these struggles. We work together to create sustainable lifestyle habits and improved self-esteem.

There are times we have had experiences or interactions that have dampened the way we see ourselves. So often our inner voice is quite negative and judgemental. Through therapy, we will examine what your self-esteem is based on, where it needs strengthening, and how to shore up your coping skills, self-talk, and sense of self.
