Lynchburg, Virginia therapist: Nathan Duff, licensed professional counselor
Eating Disorders

Nathan Duff

Licensed Professional Counselor, M.Ed., LPC, LCMHC, CCTP, C-DBT, CYMHS
To be honest about my experience with EDs, I can't say I'm very confident working with an eating disorder as a primary diagnosis, and I haven't had any specialized training, although I have considered it. However, to the extent that bulimia and anorexia co-occur with borderline personality and trauma (my two primary areas of practice) I have actually seen some success, particularly with bulimic BPD clients. (Which may also make use of my DBT skills.) With appropriate safety planning and oversight I would consider treating these disorders on a case-by-case basis, particularly if your needs line up with the disorders I regularly treat.

I work with individuals who feel trapped in patterns of restrictive eating, emotional eating, or body dissatisfaction. My approach integrates CBT, DBT, and RO DBT to address the underlying emotional and relational factors that influence eating behaviors. I focus on helping you rebuild a balanced relationship with food, your body, and your emotions—one rooted in self-compassion and awareness rather than shame or control.

We understand that eating disorders are deeply emotional disorders - food and body are the tip of the iceberg. We help clients understand the root of their disorder as well as the thoughts and actions that maintain a heartbreaking, difficult cycle of disordered eating and body dissatisfaction. We explore the benefits of recovery as well as process the loss of the eating disorder itself.

Fairfax, Virginia therapist: Sierra Dayton, licensed professional counselor
Eating Disorders

Sierra Dayton

Licensed Professional Counselor, M.Ed., LPC
I have completed plentiful research regarding eating disorders, worked with a number of clients to combat these cognitions and behaviors, and I am prepared to help any individuals in need to fight their ED. With a HAES (Health At Every Size) approach, I explore the root of the ED with clients and utilize schema-focused therapy elements to help them determine what fundamental, deeply-held beliefs have led them to feel this way about themselves and I assist them in dismantling those beliefs.
