Coping with infidelity can be incredibly difficult. Dr. Swapnil Gohil, Psy.D., offers specialized therapy to help individuals and couples heal from the pain of infidelity, rebuild trust, and strengthen their relationships.
Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist, Nationally Registered Health Service Provider
I work with couples where infidelity has been an issue, helping them find a path to forgiveness and navigate the emotional aftereffects. I also work with individuals who want to sort out the emotional impact of infidelity. For individuals, even when forgiveness is not possible, therapy can help people overcome and understand the feelings it produces in order to emerge stronger.
I have worked with many clients who are processing infidelity in their relationship, whether that's through the client themselves having cheated or because they found out their partner cheated on them. I often see this as similar to a grieving process, whether the couple decides to stay together or not. My aim is to provide a space for these clients to process the complicated emotions that accompany these experiences.
Infidelity creates a trauma in the relationship that subsequently creates a form of PTSD in the injured partner. I use the Gottman Method for Infidelity as the process for helping couples heal from the devastation of infidelity. As painful as infidelity is, I have seen many many couples heal and create a relationship that is stronger and more mutually satisfying after they have done the hard work of accountability, trust building and relationship repair.
A significant part of my practice is dedicated to infidelity and affairs, separately with the individual partners, or as a couple in relationship therapy. I have a great deal of lived experience in helping couples that want to find their way forward together, but just don’t know how. I will guide you through the emotions and practical steps needed to build a new relationship.
