Alisia Ives at Status Therapy (She/Her)

Counselor/Therapist, MS, LPC
therapist: Alisia Ives at Status Therapy,
Online in Pennsylvania (Online Only)
Your progress to achieve what you want from our time is my goal. I am attentive and straightforward, as well as caring. In twenty years of practice, I am grateful that many clients have told me that our work together was really helpful. Some return when needed and I receive referrals from prior clients as well. When we meet, you will tell me a bit about your life, what is causing you upset in this moment, and how you want life to be. We will brainstorm together about how you can begin working toward that end goal. This means regardless of which treatment modality (therapy style) is used, I am paying attention to your vocalized goals, your patterns of behavior, your feelings in relationships - including the one with yourself - and much more. It is true that we are affected by our experiences and upbringing and that may or may not be affecting you in the present. Your self-discipline, how observant you are in yourself, your confidence, how you think to yourself, how you talk with others, how you choose to spend your time, money situation, and choices in general make up the bulk of your life satisfaction. Please reach out to me if you would like to spend a few minutes on the phone before making a decision.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Transactional Analysis Explores interactions through the lens of Parent, Adult, and Child roles. It aims to improve communication and self-awareness.
Approach Description: My approach is eclectic. That means I dip into a wide and deep knowledge base to assist you in helping yourself. This also means that if in my professional opinion, there may be a better specialty or modality to assist you, I will say so. There is so much you can do on your own; however, a good counselor/therapist assists a person to identify what is going on and ways to handle it faster than we can do on our own. That is the real beauty and value of a counselor. You will share things about yourself as it helps me to understand attachment, learned behaviors, strengths, weaknesses and most importantly, what is causing you upset and what are you looking to do during our time together. Are you willing to be courageous? Do you live responsibly and with accountability for your actions? Are you willing to challenge yourself?

Alisia Ives at Status Therapy Practice Description
I meet with people both for therapy, and for coaching. Coaching is not a medical practice. It is shorter and begins with a two-hour block. It is in line with my belief in people's abilities and for people who want help but do not need therapy. With coaching there is no medical diagnosis and no medical reimbursement through insurance. Therapy is diagnosis based and may be reimbursable by insurance. In both instances, I know that people have a deep well of resource within themselves and it is always in my mind and heart that people can handle an immense amount on their own. While I know we may rely on a therapist for a window of time; highlighting your resilience, building your confidence and knowledge of your resourcefulness is an abiding goal. So that you are more confident in navigating choppy waters as well as still ones. The best clients to work with me are ones who are willing to open up, to brainstorm together, to try things and are able to extend trust. Folks dealing with feelings of 'stuckness', sadness, uncommon irritability, and anxiety/stress, trouble sleeping due to stress, work or relationship concerns are some of the most common presenting concerns. In today's age, artificial intelligence (AI) can become a source of dependency for people. I encourage people to learn to be at ease with themselves and with quiet, as well as form real friendships with people. I have read a few articles from professionals on using AI counseling services and they simply cannot compare with a live person for attendant complex meaningful work. AI chat is good for giving strokes and responding with what it thinks the human wants to hear. There are notable reports of delusions, and in severe cases psychoses, that can occur from overuse of AI as a 'confidante' or 'help'. Please be aware. It concerns me to have yet another new way that folks can use something to not be fully present and grow their resilience. Although of course there are people who are able to use AI chats with more discernment. Know thyself. And if you feel like you are trying to avoid your life, my suggestion is to find constructive ways to face your upset or loneliness in life.
