Does this sound like you? People who experience anxiety and depression can have negative self-talk and overly high expectations of self that can impact quality of life. Therapy is a welcoming environment to work on identify these messages and build the ability to separate the thought from the belief as well as challenging the stories we tell ourselves. Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
- Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
Approach Description: I usually practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy skills to create distance between your negative self-talk and you as an individual. ACT uses defusion as a way to do this and I teach the skills necessary to practice this in your time outside of therapy. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in other instances when negative self-talk will benefit from being challenged with evidence against it as well as working toward behavioral goals.
