Do you ever feel exhausted trying to figure out what "health and wellness" actually means? We are constantly bombarded by messages regarding the latest exercise trends, fad diets, and other quick-fix remedies that will supposedly make us feel better. But do you find that they actually make you more anxious, depressed, and worried about "failure"? I am a psychologist with 15+ years experience, and I help adults who are struggling with anxiety about their health. Whether you're worried about eating, fitness, sleep, chronic pain, or getting older, I will help you uncover the roots of your anxiety and feel more secure in your health. We will examine your unwritten rules around wellness and learn about how those rule affect how you feel and what you do. Together, we will help you improve your relationship with your health and equip you with a set of tools to manage whatever stressors life brings.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: Every person is unique; therefore, therapy must be tailored to fit your individual needs. However, I believe that it is important to have a general framework to guide therapy and to ensure we are headed toward you achieving your goals.

Andrea Elkon Practice Description
Given my specialization in health anxiety, I have particular interest in working with athletes of all ability levels. As a former collegiate volleyball and softball player, I understand that athletic performance incorporates so much more than physical training. I work with athletes who are struggling with anxiety, confidence, focus, or team dynamics. Additionally, I see athletes after they have experienced some major event in their athletic lives; such as acute and chronic injuries, pain, illness, or physical changes with aging. Athletes also struggle frequently with eating concerns and body image. I believe in evidenced-based practice, and I typically use a modality called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT.) This treatment is based in the idea that our thoughts and our behaviors work together to impact how we feel. I also incorporate mindfulness training into my practice, as these exercises are known to help reduce anxiety and enhance performance. These are general frameworks, and we will tailor treatment to meet your needs.
