Sexual Recovery Coach

Counselor/Therapist, PhD, CST, CADC-III, CTA-CC
The focus of my work is addictive and compulsive sexual activity. If you want to stop some behaviors, but cannot, I can help you. It is not about eliminating sex, but rather, helping you shift from objectified sex to more connected sex, strengthening your sense of personal integrity. The goal is a healthier and happier intimate relationship with your partner or partners. Oh, and you will be able to leave your phone, face up, anywhere without worry.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: Sex addiction has been described as having a hijacked brain, or as Dexter would put it, “a strange passenger.” Initially we work to develop skills and means to stop the behavior which is causing the problems. The second and deeper goal is to help you live more in honesty and integrity. To achieve this I borrow from several modalities: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, EMDR etc. I have found that one size does not fit all. Different methods help different people. With techniques for better emotional regulation, increased neuroplasticity, and exploration of the underlying causes of the compulsion, you will ultimately rewire your brain, and become free of this destructive behavior; no more secrets and lies, no more double life.

Sexual Recovery Coach Practice Description
Driven by sexual compulsions, individuals often act in ways that are not congruent with their true sense of self. The compulsion causes them to do things that are outside their own value system. The resulting shame and confusion can disrupt relationships and lead to personal strife. I help men and women worldwide break out of this cycle. A healthier sex life and a greater sense of personal integrity can be the result. If you want to stop doing some behaviors, but can't, I can help you find the way to break free from that compulsion. Sexual addiction has many names: problematic sexual behavior, compulsive sexual behavior, out of control sexual behavior, hyper sexuality. I use the term sexual addiction because the problems it causes are common to other process addictions: cravings, withdrawal, pre-occupation and continuing in spite of negative consequences. But it is really unimportant what you call it. We just focus on how to change it. My program deals with the underlying causes of the compulsion, the brain chemistry part of the equation, behavior changes and techniques for emotional regulation. The first goal of the therapy is to get a handle on the behavior. That is what is causing the chaos in your life. The second, and more important goal is to help you find ways to better live in your integrity. It is not about eliminating sex. It is about creating the possibility for healthier, happier sex.
