Aravinda Nandakumar (She/Her)

Counselor/Therapist, M.Sc. (Counselling & Family Therapy)
The reason people come to therapy are rarely simple. Sometimes it's anxiety that has gradually become exhausting, sometimes it's a relationship that no longer feels the way it once did. Sometimes it's a loss, a transition or patterns that seem to repeat despite your best efforts to change them. I offer individual couples and family therapy that is grounded in evidence and informed by a careful understanding of your history, current difficulties and therapeutic goals. My role is to help you understand what's happening, make sense of it and work towards change that feels meaningful and sustainable.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Schema Therapy Identifies deep-rooted negative patterns formed in childhood. It combines CBT, attachment theory, and experiential methods for change.
Approach Description: I believe there is no -one -size fits all approach to therapy. I integrate EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Schema Therapy, CBT, Compassion Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and psychodynamic principles to create an individualized treatment plan that reflects each clients goals, strengths and life experiences.

Aravinda Nandakumar Practice Description
The same difficulties can arise from very different life experiences, relationships, and circumstances .Understanding the difference is central to how I practice therapy. Before deciding how to help, I take time to understand the person, not simply the problem. My work integrates EMDR, EFT, Schema Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other evidence based approaches. Supported by post graduate training in counseling and family therapy ,clinical experience and ongoing professional development, I tailor therapy to meet the needs of each individual or couple rather than relying on a single therapeutic model . Whether you're working through trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions ,therapy is guided by thoughtful assessment, clinical judgment, and a shared commitment to meaningful progress. The goal is not to reduce distress, but to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and create changes that remain with you long after therapy has ended.
