Psychologist, Ph.D.
 therapist: Dr. Michael Marossy,
In-Person in Lake Oswego, OR 97035

I am a licensed psychologist with a PhD providing therapy for adolescents, adults, and couples in California and Oregon. My approach is warm, collaborative, insight-oriented, and grounded in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic theory. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship where clients feel understood rather than judged, and where difficult emotions and experiences can be explored openly and thoughtfully. I work with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, relationship issues, identity concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and life transitions. I also have experience working with pastors, ministry leaders, and clients seeking therapy that thoughtfully integrates Christian faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process when desired. I believe therapy is most effective when it helps people move beyond surface-level coping and toward deeper self-understanding, emotional freedom, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of meaning and direction in life.

Treatment Approach

  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Intersubjective Therapy Explores the shared emotional experience between therapist and client. It emphasizes connection and mutual understanding.
  • Object Relations Therapy Focuses on how early caregiver relationships shape current relationships. It aims to improve patterns of attachment and trust.
  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy is collaborative, relational, and grounded in evidence-based psychological treatment. I believe lasting change often requires more than simply managing symptoms; it involves understanding the deeper emotional, relational, behavioral, and sometimes spiritual patterns that shape a person’s experience. I draw from psychodynamic, attachment-focused, interpersonal, and emotion-focused perspectives depending on the needs of the client. In therapy, we work together to identify recurring patterns, better understand emotional reactions, improve relationships, develop healthier coping strategies, and create greater alignment between a person’s values and daily life. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is thoughtful, compassionate, and emotionally honest. Therapy with me is not about judgment, quick fixes, or forcing clients into a predetermined framework. Instead, I aim to help clients develop greater insight, emotional clarity, self-compassion, and the capacity to navigate life more intentionally and effectively. For clients who desire it, I can also thoughtfully integrate Christian faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process in ways that are clinically grounded, respectful, and psychologically informed.
