I practice from an anti-oppressive and liberatory framework that centers the lived experience and expertise of the folks I collaborate with. Social justice is integral to my practice and as part of this work, I am committed to continuously interrogating and disrupting my own race, class, and other privileges, and my complicity in the systems we live within. I firmly believe that growth is cultivated through ongoing reflection, intentionally embracing discomfort, and centering others’ intersectional experiences in community. I integrate interventions from acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, multicultural/relational counseling, somatic healing, and anti-oppressive practice.
What that means in practice is that we’ll focus on exploring and understanding your historical and current context and how your experiences may have shaped your behaviors. You might be coming into therapy to change some behaviors or ways of thinking, but it’s important for us to understand how those behaviors may have worked for you or kept you safe at some point, and may not be working as well now or within certain situations. I also focus on helping folks safely and gradually name and approach, rather than avoid, their uncomfortable internal experiences and relationship to their body. With this knowledge, we can then help you find more effective ways to connect to yourself and your community that are grounded in your values and identity. Throughout this process, we'll harness YOUR cultural strengths, values, and practices to fuel the work. I’m very collaborative and active in setting goals and in session, and I don’t tend to give formal structured “HW”. However, I do typically ask folks to reflect on something specific or set intentions/goals between sessions to keep us grounded in the work.
