Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which emphasizes how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll use CBT tools to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns and develop new, balanced ways of interpreting and responding to challenges. I also integrate techniques from Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Family Systems Theory, depending on your needs. For couples, I often incorporate the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach to couples therapy that focuses on strengthening friendship, improving communication, and managing conflict in ways that support long-term relationship stability. It helps couples build trust and emotional connection by increasing awareness of interaction patterns and teaching practical skills for repair, emotional attunement, and shared meaning.

Dr. Tracy Mallett Practice Description
When life feels overwhelming, it helps to have someone in your corner. I believe therapy works best when it’s both insightful and practical. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Theory, and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients identify patterns that contribute to distress and replace them with skills that promote resilience, emotional balance, and healthier relationships. Sessions are collaborative and goal-oriented, tailored to your unique needs, pace, and personality. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward — whether it’s due to tension at home, burnout at work, the weight of caregiving, or the loss of connection in an important relationship. Our work together begins by creating a calm, nonjudgmental space where you can safely explore what’s happening, gain new perspective, and start making meaningful, lasting changes. I have completed training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions, as well as solution-focused approaches. My graduate and postdoctoral education included supervised clinical work in individual, couples, and family therapy across a range of community and healthcare settings. Individual Therapy In individual therapy, we focus on understanding how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact — and how to shift those patterns to support your well-being. Together, we’ll work on building tools for stress management, self-esteem, motivation, and healthy boundaries. I often help clients identify the inner narratives that drive self-criticism or fear and replace them with realistic, empowering perspectives. Common concerns addressed in individual therapy include: • Anxiety and panic symptoms • Depression and low motivation • Life transitions and uncertainty • Caregiver stress and adjustment • Grief and loss • Family or relationship conflict • Career or role-related burnout Healing Family Estrangement My work focuses on improving emotional regulation, reducing blame, and fostering empathy and accountability within and across family members. Using cognitive-behavioral and family systems approaches, therapy helps clients recognize unhelpful interaction cycles, communicate more effectively, and establish healthy boundaries that promote safety and respect. Couples and Family Therapy As both a psychologist and marriage and family therapist, I specialize in helping couples and families understand the patterns that keep them stuck — cycles of miscommunication, avoidance, or defensiveness — and develop more constructive ways of relating. Our work may include identifying underlying emotional needs, improving communication and empathy, rebuilding trust, or developing co-parenting strategies after conflict or separation. In family therapy, I help each member feel heard and understood while guiding the family toward shared problem-solving, structure, and connection. Whether you’re navigating parenting challenges, blended family stress, or strained relationships between adult family members, I bring a steady, balanced approach that emphasizes emotional safety and clear boundaries. Clients often describe my style as warm, direct, and collaborative. I provide structure when it’s helpful, but I also allow room for exploration and reflection. My goal is not only to reduce symptoms but also to help you build lifelong skills for coping, communication, and emotional resilience. Beginning Therapy Starting therapy is a meaningful step toward change. During our first session, we’ll clarify your goals and create a personalized plan to guide our work. You’ll have space to share what’s been weighing on you, and together we’ll identify practical strategies for relief and growth. Whether your goal is to reduce anxiety, strengthen a relationship, improve communication, or simply feel more grounded in your daily life, therapy can help you move from surviving to truly thriving. If you’re ready to begin, I invite you to reach out. Healing begins with connection — and I’d be honored to help you take that next step.
