As a world-wide touring Comedian and Stage-Hypnotist I loved what I did for a living. A severe illness literally forced me to take advantage of my degrees and get into counseling. I entered this career with a consummate sense of gratitude and, once again I love what I do. Over the last 10yrs or so I have been told numerous times how "safe" people feel in my sessions. I believe a sense of safety is the key to openness, which is always the goal.

Treatment Approach
- Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
- Hypnotherapy Uses guided relaxation and focus to access the subconscious mind. It is often used for habits, anxiety, and pain management.
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
- Transactional Analysis Explores interactions through the lens of Parent, Adult, and Child roles. It aims to improve communication and self-awareness.
Approach Description: I approach counseling casually, using humor, metaphor, and allegory to, (hopefully), create a comfortable environment for each client. I am grounded in the following therapists; Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Ken Moses (when addressing grief). as well as Eric Berne and Thomas Harris when Transactional Analysis is the chosen tool. I frequently use music and video to illustrate points and I often encourage clients to do the same in order to get in touch with their feelings. I am also very grounded in the Socratic Method as a way for clients to explore themselves. Together we can then peacefully look at, how the pieces of our own personal puzzles fit together.

My therapy is based upon the following 5 beliefs.
1.) You are not broken. You may be uncomfortable, dissatisfied, in the midst of Grief, or Addiction, even suffering from PTSD and/or physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. But you are not broken!
2.) People regularly experience Denial, Anxiety, Fear, Guilt, Depression, Anger, and Happiness as well, and all are valid reactions to the ways we "see" situations. We experience these emotions in no particular order, and they are universal to our species. They are on our mother boards. They are part of our design. In fact, they are survival tools. They can FEEL bad, but cannot BE bad. They can feel uncomfortable, even painful. But they are NOT the problem! Rather, they are problematic, and may be part of the solution!
3.) For some, the problems are the situations which lead to the uncomfortable feelings. For others, problems arise from the behaviors attached to these uncomfortable feelings.
4.) Medications do but a fraction of the work for us. They make us "feel" better. It's our responsibility to understand and address the circumstances that led to the need for those medications.
5.) Our mind and body are one. They are inseparable.
To sum it up, the type of therapy I practice is not meant to substitute for psychiatry or traditional medicine. Rather, it is meant to work in conjunction with both if called for, towards a healthy productive life..
I make liberal use of allegory and metaphor, and in some cases humor, because the human psyche seems much more open to that kind of non-threatening communication.
I will share stories from personal experiences, as well as some constructed simply for the purpose of illustrating a point. After all is said and done, I attempt to bring life to a traditional therapeutic setting.. It doesn't have to hurt. There has been enough pain already.
