Hi! I'm Dr. Tahaney and I'm a Psychologist based in Boulder, CO. I moved to Colorado from Boston in 2020 to complete my residency training and start my clinical practice. I have about ten years of clinical experience working with clients from a range of demographic backgrounds and with a variety of presenting problems and symptoms. I have particularly specialized in treating alcohol and drug use disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, ADHD and life transition stress. I feel passionately about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental, and validating environment and utilizing my extensive background and training in evidence-based practices (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy) to help clients work through their pain and distress to live less inhibited and more fulling lives.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
Approach Description: My approach is integrative drawing from a variety of evidence-based psychotherapy approaches, including CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing , among others.
