Who are you when no one’s around? If you struggle to answer that question, you're not alone. Maybe you've become really good at being who everyone else needs you to be. The dependable daughter. The successful professional. The partner who holds everything together. The woman who can handle just about anything — until you're alone with yourself and realize you don't quite know what you need anymore. You don't have to arrive with everything figured out. You just have to be willing to get curious about yourself. Who are you when no one's around? Let's find out. Schedule a free consultation to see whether we're a good fit.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor our work to your experiences, goals, relationships, and needs. Together, we'll explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck while building greater self-awareness, emotional flexibility, and capacity for meaningful change. I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to offer perspective, ask thoughtful questions, challenge you when appropriate, and create a space where you can be honest without judgment. Therapy should feel both supportive and growth-oriented—a place where you can feel understood while also being invited to see yourself and your life in new ways.

Therapy Sessions Leandra Desinord Practice Description
Soft Ascension Therapy Collective is a warm, affirming therapy practice created for people who are ready to live with greater intention, authenticity, and connection. We believe therapy can be more than a place to manage what's wrong. It can also be a space to understand yourself more deeply, examine the patterns you've developed to navigate life, and explore who you want to become. Our practice centers the experiences of Black women and femmes, particularly those navigating relationships, identity, boundaries, self-worth, life transitions, and the complicated reality of being highly capable while still feeling emotionally unfulfilled. At Soft Ascension, we take a compassionate, culturally responsive, and sex-positive approach to therapy. We welcome the complexity of your relationships, your desires, your identities, your ambitions, and the parts of yourself you may still be learning how to understand. Whether you're navigating a difficult relationship, feeling disconnected from yourself, struggling with the pressure to do everything on your own, or simply sensing that you're ready for something different, therapy can be a place to slow down, get curious, and create room for a fuller version of your life. You don't have to wait until something is falling apart to begin. You can come because you're ready to grow.
