Treatment Approach

  • Brainspotting A therapy that uses eye positions to access and process unresolved trauma. It helps release emotional and physical pain held in the body.
  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
Approach Description: My therapeutic approach is collaborative, flexible, and grounded in respect for each client’s unique experience. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all model of healing. Instead, I tailor treatment to meet the emotional needs, developmental stage, and goals of each individual I work with. In session, I aim to create a steady and supportive environment where clients feel safe enough to slow down and notice what is happening internally, thoughts, emotions, body responses, and patterns in relationships. I often help clients identify how anxiety, self-criticism, and past experiences may be shaping present-day emotional responses, always moving at a pace that feels safe and manageable for the client. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to develop more balanced and realistic thinking patterns. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to support emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier interpersonal communication. These tools are practical and skill-based, helping clients apply what they learn outside of session in real-life situations. When working with trauma and deeper emotional distress, I am trained in Brainspotting, which I use to support clients in accessing and processing experiences that may be difficult to reach through talk therapy alone. This approach allows the brain and body to engage in natural healing processes, helping clients work through trauma in a way that feels contained, supported, and paced to their readiness. I also recognize the importance of meaning, identity, and values in the healing process. For clients who desire it, I integrate Christian counseling in a way that respects their faith and allows space for spiritual reflection, encouragement, and connection to God as part of the therapeutic journey. My role is not to direct a client’s life, but to walk alongside them as they build insight, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with their sense of self. I approach therapy with curiosity rather than assumption, and I value authenticity and emotional safety as the foundation for change. As a master’s-level counseling intern under clinical supervision, I remain committed to ethical practice, ongoing learning, and providing care that is thoughtful, grounded, and responsive to each client’s needs. Ultimately, my approach is centered on helping clients feel more regulated, more self-aware, and more confident in their ability to navigate life with clarity and resilience.

Madison Zimbal Practice Description
My practice is built around the idea that emotional struggles are not simply problems to “fix,” but signals that something within a person needs care, attention, and understanding. I work with children, teens, and women who often feel emotionally overwhelmed, anxious, or caught in patterns that are hard to break on their own. Many of the individuals I support are outwardly responsible, capable, or high-achieving, yet internally experience self-criticism, worry, or a sense of never quite being at ease. I provide a space where that inner experience can be spoken freely—without pressure, judgment, or the need to have it all figured out. Rather than focusing only on surface-level coping, I help clients slow down and explore what is driving their emotional responses and patterns. Anxiety, in particular, often shows up in ways that are easy to overlook—overthinking decisions, difficulty resting, fear of disappointing others, or feeling constantly “on.” In therapy, we begin to untangle those experiences so clients can relate to themselves with more clarity and less pressure. I draw from structured, skills-based approaches such as CBT and DBT-informed strategies to help clients build awareness of thought patterns and strengthen emotional regulation. At the same time, I remain flexible in my approach, recognizing that each person’s story requires a different pace, depth, and style of support. When appropriate, I also incorporate Brainspotting to support processing of emotional experiences that feel stuck or difficult to access through conversation alone. For clients who wish to include their faith, I offer Christian counseling that allows spiritual beliefs to be part of the healing process in an open and respectful way. This can include exploring meaning, identity, hope, and personal faith as a source of strength and grounding. People often come to therapy when what they’ve been doing to cope no longer feels like enough. They may feel mentally exhausted, emotionally overwhelmed, or unsure of how to move forward in relationships, self-esteem, or daily life. In our work together, the focus is on creating steadiness—helping clients feel more anchored internally so that life feels less reactive and more manageable. My style is calm, attentive, and collaborative. I don’t believe clients need to be pushed or “fixed,” but instead supported in becoming more aware of themselves and empowered in their choices. The therapeutic relationship is central to my work, and I prioritize creating a space where clients feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are. As a master’s-level counseling intern under supervision, I bring both current clinical training and a strong commitment to thoughtful, ethical care. I value continued learning and approach each client with respect for their individuality and lived experience. At the heart of my work is a simple intention: to help people feel less consumed by anxiety, more connected to themselves, and more capable of navigating life with steadiness and self-trust.
