I am a licensed psychologist who works with adolescents and adults. My clinical approach is direct, collaborative, and practical. I want clients to understand what is contributing to their difficulties and leave therapy with skills they can use in their everyday lives. My background includes clinical and forensic psychology settings. I have worked with people experiencing trauma, emotional dysregulation, behavioral problems, interpersonal difficulties, and a range of other mental health concerns. That experience has made me attentive to the broader context of a person’s life rather than focusing only on symptoms or diagnostic labels. In therapy, I primarily use cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy approaches. I adapt treatment based on the person in front of me, their goals, and what appears to be maintaining the problem. I tend to work well with clients who want an active therapist and who are willing to look closely at patterns in their emotions, behavior, relationships, and coping. I value straightforward communication and a strong working relationship. I also use humor when it fits the person and the situation. My role is to help clients make sense of what they are experiencing, identify where change is possible, and build strategies that are useful outside of the therapy session.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach is active, collaborative, and practical. I primarily draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, with treatment adjusted to the client’s needs, goals, and level of functioning. I tend to focus on patterns that keep problems going, including how thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and coping strategies interact. Sessions may involve identifying these patterns, learning specific skills, practicing new responses, and applying what we discuss to situations outside of therapy. I work especially well with clients who prefer a therapist who is engaged and direct rather than mostly passive or nondirective. I value straightforward communication and try to create a space where clients can discuss difficult material without feeling judged. I also use humor when it fits the person and the situation. Treatment may include work on emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, behavioral change, trauma-related symptoms, and more effective ways of responding to stress. I try to keep therapy focused enough to be useful while still allowing room to understand the history and context behind the problems we are addressing.

Odom Psychological Services Practice Description
Odom Psychological Services is a private psychology practice in the Clear Lake area of Houston, Texas. The practice provides psychological evaluations, individual psychotherapy, and skills-based services for adolescents and adults. A large part of the practice involves psychological assessment. Evaluations may address ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, personality functioning, behavioral concerns, and other questions involving diagnosis or treatment planning. The assessment process is tailored to the referral question and may include a clinical interview, psychological testing, cognitive testing, executive functioning measures, review of records, and collateral information when appropriate. Many people seek evaluation because they have longstanding difficulties with attention, organization, emotional regulation, social functioning, school, work, or relationships and have never received a clear explanation for those problems. Others already have one or more diagnoses and want a closer look at whether those diagnoses fit. In those cases, the focus is often on differential diagnosis and understanding how several factors may be interacting. ADHD evaluations consider current symptoms, developmental history, functional impairment, and other conditions that can affect attention and executive functioning. Problems with concentration and organization can also occur with depression, anxiety, trauma, sleep problems, substance use, stress, and other conditions. A thorough evaluation considers those possibilities before drawing conclusions. Autism evaluations are available for adolescents and adults and may be appropriate for people with longstanding differences in social communication, relationships, sensory experiences, routines, interests, or adaptation to social demands. The evaluation considers developmental history, current functioning, and other conditions that can overlap with features of autism. General psychological evaluations are also available when the main question is broader than ADHD or autism. These evaluations may be useful when someone has a complicated clinical history, several possible diagnoses, an unclear treatment history, or symptoms that do not fit neatly into one category. Individual psychotherapy is available for adolescents and adults. Treatment commonly addresses depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional dysregulation, impulsive behavior, interpersonal conflict, adjustment problems, and other concerns affecting daily functioning. My therapy work is informed mainly by cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Sessions tend to be active and focused on identifying patterns, understanding what is maintaining them, and practicing ways to respond differently. Treatment is adjusted based on the client’s goals, preferences, functioning, and clinical needs. DBT-informed treatment may be useful for people who have difficulty managing intense emotions, act impulsively when distressed, struggle with relationships, or have trouble using coping strategies when emotions are high. Treatment may include work on mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. The practice also offers skills-based group services focused on managing emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and responding more effectively to difficult situations. My professional background includes work in clinical and forensic psychology settings. During internship and postdoctoral training, I worked extensively with adolescents in juvenile justice settings who presented with trauma histories, serious behavioral concerns, emotional problems, family conflict, and complex diagnostic questions. That experience continues to influence how I approach assessment and treatment when several psychological, developmental, and environmental factors may be contributing to the same problem. Odom Psychological Services is a private-pay practice. Psychological evaluations are provided in person in the Houston and Clear Lake area. Individual psychotherapy is available in person for Texas clients and by telepsychology when appropriate. Through PSYPACT authorization, I may also provide telepsychology services to eligible clients located in participating PSYPACT jurisdictions.
