"Trauma is Trauma!" It is a belief that the client is the one that gets to define the situations that they feel have been impactful and have changed the course of their life. Using Trauma Focused-CBT, we will work side by side in helping to go through the trauma in a narrative fashion. This will be done only after building trust and using psychoeducation for a more thorough understanding of the impacts on trauma no matter what age it has occurred. It takes time to heal, but these are things that happened and do not have to hold you back anymore. Let's start the process of healing for you.
Trauma is always with us. We re-experience traumatic events as we move from one phase of life to the next, and thus we must also re-process the trauma. Not doing so can lead to PTSD. Biologically, we are creatures that feel first, and think second. Thus, having a safe space to explore the emotional content of our trauma and validation for those feelings is an important step in moving forward.
My belief is that traumatic experiences can profoundly alter an individual’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. I use various techniques to help better understand how my client's experiences have impacted their lives and the problems they are currently trying to understand and resolve for themselves.
At Dyer Psychology, Inc., we provide expert therapy for trauma and PTSD using evidence-based approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Our compassionate and supportive environment helps clients process traumatic experiences, reduce symptoms, and regain a sense of safety and control. We are dedicated to guiding clients toward healing and resilience, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.

Trauma can result from big or small events. The result for both is that the event remains frozen in our brain bodies affecting our present day. The use of EMDR allows the brain to reprocess and resolve traumatic events.
Trauma can be caused by a specific event (like an accident, assault, or life-threatening event), a recurring event (like combat exposure or repeated abuse), or a developmental, childhood, or relational trauma (like physical or emotional neglect in childhood).
Trauma can also be caused by many other frightening situations, such as bullying, abuse, rape, crime, war, victimization, and shaming/humiliation.
You don’t have to live with symptoms of trauma and PTSD. Trauma therapy can help you get unstuck and return to feeling like yourself again. You can heal from trauma.
Trauma is anything that happens and we're not able to return to "normal". What happens after trauma is also just as important and affects how we recreate life.
My role in trauma recovery is to support you in understanding what happened, and taking back your empowerment to direct your life going forward, and how you narrate the story of your life.
I have substantial experience working with military veterans and trauma/PTSD. We can work together to decrease distressing symptoms, and explore how viewing the trauma from different perspectives can lead to improved functioning.

Trauma and PTSD are held in our bodies. Memories, feelings, smells, sounds, sites, situations, and events can act as stimuli being triggered into intense emotional or physical reactions, such as panic attacks. Therapeutic interventions help our brains to learn new ways to reorganize synaptic connections resulting in lessening or release of symptoms and triggers from the trauma(s). EMDR and other evidence-based modalities integrative therapies are used. After successful EMDR therapy, emotional distress is relieved, negative beliefs and limitations are reformulated into positive beliefs and strengths, and physiological arousal is reduced. EMDR therapy is offered online with eye movement, audio or physical bilateral stimulation based upon the client's preference.

Trauma comes in many forms. When it is over, many of us try to convince ourselves that it is done, in the past, but that is rarely the case. Trauma seems to follow us throughout our lives. In our mood, thoughts, behaviors, self-image, and relationships. We cannot change our past, but we can change how we view it. I help clients understand and address their trauma experience, so they can move forward in a more positive way. Treatment is tailored to each client's needs and goals. Common modalities used during therapy may include Crisis Intervention, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. There may also be a focus on reducing physical symptoms of stress through relaxation, grounding techniques, and self-care.
