Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Schema Therapy Identifies deep-rooted negative patterns formed in childhood. It combines CBT, attachment theory, and experiential methods for change.
Approach Description: My approach blends structure with flexibility. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help identify and shift the thought patterns that keep anxiety and depression on repeat, Schema Therapy to get at the deeper, often long-standing patterns behind those thoughts, IFS to help you understand and work with the different "parts" of yourself — including the ones that overfunction, people-please, or shut down — and ACT to build a healthier relationship with difficult emotions instead of fighting them. I don't stick rigidly to any one method session to session. Some weeks call for concrete tools and homework; other weeks call for simply talking things through. I let what's actually happening for you guide which approach we lean on, rather than forcing every session into the same shape.

Therapy Sessions Sarah Rossmiller Practice Description
I'm Sarah Rossmiller, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years in practice. My clients tend to be deep feelers and deep thinkers: people wrestling with anxiety, depression, and the kind of stress that builds up from years of putting everyone else first. A lot of what we work on together is learning to set boundaries that hold, not just ones that sound nice in theory. I lean on tools like CBT, Schema Therapy, IFS, and ACT, but I don't run sessions off a script — some days call for digging into patterns, other days just need space to talk it out, and I follow whatever the moment actually calls for. Underneath it all, I care about who you really are, not some tidier, more convenient version of you, and you don't need to have it figured out before we start. My cat occasionally sits in on sessions too, unofficially, and is remarkably good at modeling what it looks like to just lie around and not overthink anything. I'm licensed in Texas and Minnesota and see clients online only. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd genuinely love to hear your story.
