Approach Description: Román’s treatment approach is in-depth therapy tailored to the needs of each unique individual. It involves seeking deep understanding of a person’s relation to self and others, thoughts and feelings, wishes and desires, fears and anxieties. Román facilitates this through attentive listening and speaking what needs to be known, without impatience, judgement or superficiality. His work is focused on alleviating suffering by bringing clarity to anything that feels confusing and exploring connections between parts of the mind that may be disconnected. Roman Yumatov Practice Description
Román Yumatov, M.A., LP, FIPA works internationally as a psychoanalyst, psychotherapist, teacher and clinical supervisor for mental health professionals. He has over 10 years of clinical experience treating anxiety, depression, loss/grief, loneliness, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, personality disorders, trauma, issues of sexuality and gender, including LGBTQ+ issues.
Román Yumatov is a faculty member and supervisor at the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and a faculty member at the Institute for Expressive Analysis. Román has been leading an international study group, as well as clinical seminars. He holds a graduate degree in psychoanalysis (with distinction) from the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex (U.K.), where he was also awarded the Sigmund Freud Memorial Prize. He is a Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association, Psychoanalyst Member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and Member of China American Psychoanalytic Alliance. His writings examining psychoanalytic thinking on matters of gender and sexuality have been presented internationally and culminated in the publication of “Male Sexuality and Gender in Psychoanalysis: Selected Essays”.
