They need to be to explain their behavior in a way that makes sense to their partner such that they can begin to forgive and trust again. This can take a long time. Couples therapy can really help to make this go much smoother and more quickly. Sometimes, out of the worst crisis, a new relationship emerges, one that is happier, more stable, more open, and more loving.
