Coaching is a professional service that is significantly different from consulting, mentoring, advice, therapy, or counseling. Therapy tends to focus on reducing emotional distress and psychiatric symptoms, recognizing aspects of our personality that we want to change, and learning how to change dysfunctional patterns of thinking and behaving. The coaching process addresses specific personal projects, business or academic successes, transitions in the client’s personal life, relationships, and improving well-being. We do this together by establishing realistic, clear goals, discovering what your obstacles or challenges might be, and choosing a course of action to make your life be what you want it to be. By using structure, accountability, technology, and effective communication, working with a professional coach can lead most clients to growth and success beyond what they have been able to achieve on their own. Every day we make choices to do or not do many things. These choices may range from profound to trivial and each one has an effect that makes our lives more fulfilling or less fulfilling, more balanced or less balanced, that make our process of living more effective or less effective. Professional coaching helps you learn how to make choices that create an effective, balanced and fulfilling life. Common areas of concern that are well-addressed through professional coaching: Relationships and Intimacy Health, Aging, Lifestyle and Self-Care Family and Parenting Stress Management and Balance Career Planning and Development Workplace Dynamics and Team-Building Spirituality and Personal Growth Motivation and Time Management Finances and Budgeting I combine over 15 years of professional experience in business development, marketing, and human resources with over a decade of graduate psychology education, training, and practice to help my clients reach their goals. Many “coaches” do not have any graduate level education, 1,000’s of hours of supervised professional experience, strict state licensing exams they have passed, or a professional license granted by the California State Department of Consumer Affairs. I do.

Life just keeps happening, doesn’t it? Whether you are just starting out in life and are unsure of your direction or if you have been thrown a curve ball through a divorce, a death of a loved one or loss of career, it is often helpful to get support and perspective from a therapeutically. Conflict often arises in these change times. Should I go this way or that way? It is often not easy to know. Fear of change often clouds the inner voice making it difficult to know the best direction. Anxiety can take over and you can just feel paralyzed. This paralyzed state just conjures up on the demons of self-doubt and fear of failure, so a much-needed change can be delayed, compounding the problem. Taking time to understand yourself and your essential needs is an important step in caring for your future self. (The version of you that must live out the consequences of your present-day choices.) Having the support of a clear thinking ally, such as a trusted therapist can make the world of difference. Often, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy can be quite useful during these times. CBT helps to sort through the conflicting emotions by identifying core beliefs and cognitive distortions that are contributing to the confusion. Identifying these processes can help to gain control of an anxious mind, so that a clearer, more authentic voice can come through. That can be a breath of fresh air. Now at least the next right step is laid out in front you. Often this is a small baby step rather than a huge leap into the unknown.

Coaching - Life, Relationships, Creativity, Motivation, and Work-Life Balance Telehealth enables individuals and couples around the world to engage in valuable coaching. You can improve important aspects of your life like your wellbeing, work life balance, motivation, inspiration, sexual health, and relationship satisfaction all from the comfort of your own home. I offer coaching services using behavioral analyses, motivational interventions, psychoeducation, mindfulness practices, narrative techniques, and more. Making time to focus on your wellbeing is important for all facets of life. We will address concerns related to past experiences that have affected your sense of dignity and worthiness. We will explore the impact of 'should's, guilt, and shame on your work-life balance, motivation, and creativity. Let's understand and build a positive, empowered future that invites joy and meaning in your life. Whether you have experienced trauma, discrimination, burnout, infidelity, or just a slow feeling of not having the same effectiveness and energy in your daily life and relationships-- we can work together to promote healing, and self-confidence. Coaching is not psychotherapy. If therapists are surgeons, coaches are your personal trainer. Coaching is a thought provoking and creative process that inspires you to maximize your personal and/or professional potential. Coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes, and managing personal change. This is a transformative process for personal/professional awareness, self-discovery and growth. If you are having difficulties, a coach may be able to help you clear up how you think about the situation, untangle confusing interactions with others, get some perspective on what is going on and how it impacts you, set inspiring new goals and creating new outcomes. In individual coaching, as well as relationship coaching, if there is significant difficulties with mental illness, therapy or couples therapy would be recommended. Ultimately, coaching feels less intensive and rarely requires you to re-tell trauma. Coaching can help you find peace, balance, and well being in places you may have been feeling stuck or unmotivated. Additionally, I am a relationship expert, and employ relationship coaching techniques to promote change, communication, and understanding in less distressed clients looking for relationship changes and insights in a coaching rather than therapeutic format. (See Relational Services for more information on relationship related coaching.)
