We identify the origins of where this started, the reasons behind it. We may use CBT worksheets in order to reframe triggers and set goals for the client to achieve regarding this. There may be an element of exposure therapy if the client wants to and feels able to work towards this.

"Before I tried hypnotherapy I heard many stories how people lost weight without having operation, stopped smoking, got rid of different fears. My problem was I couldn’t answer the phone in the office while my colleagues were working close to my desk. I was not confident dealing with people on the phone and it was destroying me every day. This was my first experience having hypnotherapy. The session itself was very pleasant, I was so relaxed and calm like never before. After the hypnotherapy I started feeling different. It is strange, I got this confidence that I was always lacking. I couldn’t get this confidence myself and during the hypnosis session my unconscious mind was told to be confident. It is amazing how well it works! Our brain is powerful to change everything but sometimes we need a little help." (Lina)

Human beings are not the only social animal, but our ability to interact with other people is a critical factor in our lives and thereby our sense of wellbeing. Social anxiety arises for many different reasons-- sometimes as a result of difficult experiences during our upbringing, resulting in low self-esteem, for example. In recent times the temptation to compare ourselves to others has been distorted by cultural phenomena such as social media. We are constantly bombarded by images of success, beauty, attainment, wealth, and so on that we can never hope to achieve. This creates an unrealistic sense of worth and worthlessness that sometimes causes us to isolate ourselves even further. Psychological counselling can help evaluate who we really are, what we want to achieve, and how we can do this. In my experience the most effective treatment is an evaluation of the root causes of social anxiety in my clients. I then design a specific coaching program to enable my clients to engage with the social world.
