My approach with trauma is to make connections with how it is affecting your current life. Clients are often surprised to learn some of the symptoms that come with trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Some of those symptoms include anxiety, intrusive thoughts, guilt, social isolation, loss of pleasure, hypervigilance, and self-destructive behaviors (to name a few). Although this can seem overwhelming, I use trauma-informed approaches and a trauma reprocessing therapy similar to EMDR.

I also coordinate efforts with defense attorneys, so as to help the clients attorney best defend their client , and I work with that attorney to show the court the client is making real change.
In my coordination with the defense attorney, I work on helping the client change distorted thoughts and behaviors so as to present well at their pre-sentencing interview (PSI), to help show the court that a community (not jail) based disposition is possible for that particular client.
