Washington, Washington, D.C. therapist: David A. Heilman, psychologist
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

David A. Heilman

Psychologist, Psy.D.
When deciding to see a therapist, it can be extremely challenging to choose someone to work with. I hope to be there with you in therapy as you work to discover new levels self-understanding, compassion, and insight. Most individuals decide to start therapy after encountering emotional distress that has left them overwhelmed, and as though they have lost control of their life. I work collaboratively with my clients to find ways in which they are able to regain a sense of control, empowerment, and purpose in their lives. Important to our work will be the concept that our relationship, and the exploration of that relationship, will help you make discoveries about other important relationships in your life. Although this work can be challenging at times, it can lead to improvements in your social interactions, mood, and anxiety. While I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of individuals, I specialize in LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic shame, couples/relationship challenges, and non-traditional relationships. I am currently seeing new clients in my Dupont Circle office, and I look forward to answering any of your questions.

Atlanta, Georgia therapist: Kristena Martin, licensed professional counselor
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Kristena Martin

Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC
Couples often seek counseling at a point where they believe their relationships are beyond repair. Communication has broken down, they lack trust, and intimacy no longer exists. Giving yourselves a chance to address this in therapy increases your chance of resolution. Successful, loving relationships are the result of continuous effort. I work with those who desire to learn and receive feedback that directly relates altering behaviors that are damaging to the relationship. When these conditions are met, there is an excellent chance that the relationship will wind up in a stronger place than it’s ever been in before. In working with women it is my firm belief that we all have the capacity to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives, rich with experiences, emotions and relationships. The goal of individual therapy to empower you to be your best self and find passion and joy in life. We’ll address everything you’re feeling, explore new options, and together develop a plan to help you reach your dreams and self-potential.
