Trauma and PTSD

Hypnosis Silver Spring

Hypnotherapist, Hypnotherapist certified by International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association
Trauma and PTS (I don't like the "D" for "disorder") work can be difficult. We will work through and resolve the memory of the original incident or incidents, in gentle ways that do not require direct, painful re-experiencing. We will work mostly on the unconscious level to resolve the emotions involved, and the associated shame, guilt, regret, and grief. This work can take longer than the 3-4 sessions that resolve most other types of issues.

Trauma and PTSD

Susan Spicer

Psychologist, PhD
My background as a licensed psychologist and a trauma survivor uniquely positions me to offer compassionate and effective support to individuals who have experienced trauma, whether it be abandonment or physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. My personal journey through trauma has given me firsthand insight into the complex and often challenging process of healing. This, combined with my education and professional experience, enables me to approach therapy with deep empathy, understanding, and a genuine connection to my clients' experiences. I believe in the power of resilience and the potential for growth in the face of adversity, and I am dedicated to helping survivors on their path to recovery and empowerment. With EMDR as my primary treatment modality, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise in guiding individuals towards trauma healing. My approach focuses on collaboratively identifying trauma targets for processing while also prioritizing resourcing techniques to reestablish a sense of safety and inner peace. Through EMDR therapy, I help clients transform the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain, ultimately freeing them from flashbacks, nightmares, and avoidance patterns associated with trauma. My commitment is to support individuals on their journey to reclaim their lives and find lasting relief from the effects of trauma.

Trauma and PTSD

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C
PTSD is a complicated thing to treat and actually responds a lot better to behavioral techniques rather than "talk therapy." Trauma affects the body and nervous system and is much more complex than a lot of people realize. I can help clients prevent and handle flashbacks more easily as well as decrease PTSD symptoms overall by using a technique called TRE (Trauma Releasing Exercise). Often talking about the trauma makes it worse and the goal is not to relive the trauma. The goal is to help clients separate "past" from "present" so that the traumatic event feels "done and over." While we can't change the past, we can help clients learn to stay in the present instead of being re-traumatized by memories of past events. I can provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing) which is a non-invasive effect method that neutralizes the emotional "charge" attached to traumatic memories. It is best use for single traumatic events (rather than years of traumatic circumstances in childhood for example). EMDR and TRE can only be done in person due to the equipment I use.
