If you experience intense anxiety in social situations you may be struggling with social anxiety disorder (social phobia). Social anxiety is the fear of judgment from others, whether it’s new people, authority figures, romantic interests, friends, acquaintances or strangers. This can make it difficult to do things like make friends, ask for a raise, go on dates, attend parties, or give speeches.
With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I’ll teach you skills for working with unhelpful thoughts and behaviors so you can reclaim your life from anxiety and move towards the nourishing connections you crave.

Hello and welcome! I've been providing therapy for individuals and couples for over 15 years and one of the areas that I specialize in is helping people who experience varying degrees of social anxiety. It is not uncommon for people who have social anxiety to also complain of symptoms of depression, low self-esteem and confidence, along with intense anxiety in general. If you struggle with social anxiety you may tend to isolate and avoid relationships and interactions with others, which can lead to the pain of loneliness and feeling inadequate. If you falsely believe you are unworthy, compare yourself to others and determine you're not "good enough" then you may choose to avoid others. This can leave you feeling sad, hopeless, alone, and without the motivation to pursue your interests. I can help you develop the tools and strategies to reduce these intense feelings while developing a more realistic and healthier sense of yourself. By cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence you develop ways to reduce suffering, social anxiety and withdrawal, general anxiety, and self-neglect. You will discover your own unique strengths, resources and inherent wisdom while experiencing more joy and a sense of control over your life. This can help you feel more motivated to seek out social interactions and develop relationships that can be very meaningful and fulfilling.
Social anxiety can affect many areas in your life and can have a negative impact not only on the quality of interactions and relationships with others but also your ability to work and function optimally. It can hold you back from pursuing interests and activities that you might enjoy and find rewarding. My focus will be on exploring your unique situation and goals, and I'll tailor the therapy in a way that will benefit YOU the most. You’ll feel empowered and motivated to change negative patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that perpetuate social anxiety. This can help you feel happier, function in a more productive way and feel satisfied with life overall. For further information please see my practice description and personal statement about my therapy approach and how I may be able to help. I look forward to working with you!
