Marriage is challenging in the best of circumstances, and not all marriages have the ability to flourish. At times, divorce or separation can be the healthy outcome of an unhappy situation, while at other times, the end of a marriage can be devastating. Regardless of your situation, I am here to help you, whether you are making decisions in the uncertain end stages of a marriage, actively in the process of separating from a long-term partner, or needing support in the aftermath of divorce. I also provide coparenting counseling and other parenting support to moms and dads trying to manage their children's needs through the process of separation or divorce.

Abington, Pennsylvania therapist: HUGH R STEWART III, hypnotherapist
Divorce

HUGH R STEWART III

Hypnotherapist, Ph.D., ACHt.
I have been divorced. I was married for four years and tried to fit in with my family and friends. Divorce is an ongoing grieving process for a while. First when thinking of divorce or in marital counseling, we may be angry and blaming our spouse for certain things. Then there may be a separation where we get to feel other feelings. Until the divorce is complete through the courts we are still attached and unavailable. We may have guilt about not following through on our marriage vows. We may be upset because we knew it wouldn't work from the beginning. We may also not know who we are as we defined ourselves through the marriage and what we did together. And frequently feelings of failure surface. Divorce is a transition. Many of us just cannot live together. My opinion is that it too easy to get married and too difficult to get divorced because of money, friends, family, etc. It usually takes a good year to a year in a half living together before we know if this is the person for me as a life partner. The chemicals of oxytocin in our bodies get released when we are dating somebody new. This feeling brings us together in what we call love. However, real lasting Love takes longer to cultivate and it takes 1-1 1/2 years for the oxytocin to wear off so we can see our partners for who they really are. In short, oxytocin and sex make us stupid to jump into committed relationships before both parties are ready.

Even a 'good' divorce can shake the ground under your feet. Dismantling a shared life is difficult and you may be having a lot of contradictory feelings: grief mixed with relief, compassion and anger. It can take some time to start to grieve and to figure out how you want to rebuild your life. In our work together we'll make space for all of the feelings and we'll work through what lessons you want to learn and figure out what you want moving forward.

Narberth, Pennsylvania therapist: Michelle Bloom, PsyD, psychologist
Divorce

Michelle Bloom, PsyD

Psychologist, PsyD, PsyPact
Divorce can be both a gift and a curse; in any case, it is rarely easy, particularly when children are involved. As my own therapist once advised many years ago when I worked through my own divorce, you cannot expect to dismantle a family without having to walk through the rubble. I help couples and individuals work on their relationship yet also recognize when letting go and parting may be a healthier solution. Helping individuals divorce mindfully and with compassion is the goal from my perspective.

Divorce, Post-Separation Abuse, and Parenting With a Narcissist Divorce isn’t always just paperwork and moving on, especially when you’re leaving a toxic or narcissistic partner. It’s a battlefield that can include post-separation abuse, high-conflict divorce tactics, parental alienation, and navigating a family court system that often doesn’t understand covert emotional abuse. If you’re Googling terms like: “Parallel parenting with a narcissist” “High-conflict divorce support for moms” “Post-separation abuse signs” “Gaslighting in family court” “Co-parenting with a toxic ex” “Surviving custody battles with a narcissist” …you’re exactly who I work with. I know firsthand how devastating and isolating this can feel. I’ve walked this path myself as a single mom. I understand the terror of sending your kids for visitation, the frustration of being disbelieved by the court, and the exhaustion of trying to protect your children while managing work, finances, and your own healing. How I Help Women Through Toxic Divorces: Education on post-separation abuse tactics so you’re not blindsided Strategies for parallel parenting to minimize conflict and protect your kids Emotional regulation tools for high-conflict custody negotiations Boundary-setting skills to reduce manipulation and chaos Trauma-informed therapy to heal gaslighting wounds and rebuild self-trust Mind-body practices to manage burnout, anxiety, and chronic stress flare-ups Coaching support to stay grounded, organized, and empowered in family court With 25+ years as a licensed psychologist and certified coach, plus lived experience surviving a high-conflict divorce, I bring both clinical expertise and real-world understanding. My clients often tell me it’s the first time they’ve felt seen and validated. You’re not imagining the manipulation or the obstacles, you’re navigating one of the hardest experiences a woman can face. You don’t have to face it alone. Together, we’ll create a plan to protect your peace, support your kids, and reclaim your future.
