Trauma and PTSD

Dr. Chiara Simeone-DiFrancesco

Psychologist, PhD
I am very sensitive to person's trauma and making therapy a "safe spot" for them. In addition, we work together to help understand the effects of the trauma on your life and on your relationships. People with trauma also confuse those around them, and it is not their fault. The trauma is like a bucket of ice water, and it splashes up and hits you and your relationships. I'll help you learn to carry that ice-bucket together and start to melt the ice. We have many ways in psychology to address trauma, and together we will explore the interventions that are intune with you. Trauma is not always only in your "brain/head". Your body can hold trauma in many ways that can confuse you (especially regarding intimacy), including ways that are bound to confuse your mate. I'd love to help you overcome it! Schema Therapy uses tools that are very safe and tested, including building up your strength resources and learning how to soothe/calm activation of bad memories. I hope and pray you reach out to a therapist and invest in yourself to overcome whatever you have gone through.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop in individuals who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Trauma, broadly defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, can have lasting effects on one's emotional and psychological well-being. Common sources of trauma leading to PTSD include but are not limited to, combat exposure, sexual assault, accidents, or natural disasters. Symptoms of PTSD often manifest as intrusive memories, nightmares, heightened arousal, avoidance of reminders, and negative changes in mood and cognition. Trauma affects individuals differently, and while some may recover naturally over time, others may need therapeutic intervention. Effective treatments for PTSD include various forms of psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as medications that target specific symptoms. Recognizing and addressing trauma is crucial for promoting healing and restoring a sense of safety and well-being.
