My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with understanding—of ourselves, our patterns, and the biological and emotional systems that shape how we experience the world. I work with individuals, couples, and families across a wide range of concerns, integrating clinical experience, psychological insight, and education about how the brain and nervous system function under stress, trauma, and emotional strain. Throughout my career in community mental health, private practice, medical settings, and teaching, I have worked with people facing complex emotional and relational challenges. These experiences have shaped a practical, compassionate, and direct style that focuses on helping clients understand why they feel and react the way they do, while developing concrete skills for change. I believe therapy is not only about symptom relief but about increasing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the ability to navigate life with greater clarity and intention. My work often includes helping clients understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and physiological responses. By learning how to regulate the nervous system and tolerate uncertainty, individuals can respond more thoughtfully rather than react automatically. I aim to create a collaborative and respectful therapeutic environment where clients feel safe to explore difficult experiences, retell their stories when needed, and move toward a stronger sense of stability and self-understanding. Therapy is a process of growth, accountability, and compassion. Whether someone is navigating anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, trauma, or life transitions, my goal is to help them build insight, resilience, and a more grounded sense of who they are and how they want to live.

Treatment Approach

  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Neuropsychology Examines how brain function affects thinking, memory, and behavior. It often involves assessment and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Object Relations Therapy Focuses on how early caregiver relationships shape current relationships. It aims to improve patterns of attachment and trust.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
Approach Description: My therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to the presenting concerns of each individual or couple. Rather than using a single model for every situation, I draw from multiple evidence-based treatment approaches and adapt them to best address the specific challenges, goals, and personality of the client. Therapy is guided by both clinical experience and research in psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral health. Treatment may incorporate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, insight-oriented therapy, trauma-informed care, relational and systems approaches, and skills-based interventions depending on what will be most effective. I also integrate education about the biological and neurological processes that influence emotional regulation, stress responses, trauma reactions, and behavior patterns. Helping clients understand how the brain and nervous system function often provides clarity, reduces shame, and increases the ability to make meaningful changes. The goal of therapy is not only symptom relief but increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and the ability to respond more intentionally rather than react automatically. Together, we identify patterns that contribute to distress, build practical tools for managing them, and develop healthier ways of communicating, coping, and relating. My style is collaborative, direct, and compassionate, creating a space where clients can safely explore challenges, gain insight, and move toward lasting change.
