Treatment Approach

  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
Approach Description: You don’t have to keep doing this on your own! If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted by anxiety, grief, or past experiences, therapy can be a place to finally slow things down and make sense of what you’ve been carrying. I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, and loss. You might feel constantly on edge, caught in “what if” thoughts, disconnected from yourself, or unsure how to move forward after something difficult. Even when things look okay on the outside, it can feel like a lot underneath. In our work together, we’ll create a space where you can feel supported without judgment. Therapy isn’t about forcing quick fixes, it’s about helping you understand your patterns, process what you’ve been through, and find ways to feel more grounded and like yourself again. We will work together, and come up with a path to healing tailored especially for you; there is no "one size fits all" in my approach. I offer convenient virtual therapy across New York State and accept Cigna and Carelon. I also offer sliding scale as needed. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s okay. You don’t have to have it all figured out to reach out. Text, call, or email for a complimentary consultation, and we can get started together.

Emily Brenner Practice Description
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you’ve been managing things by yourself for a long time. You might feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns that are hard to shift. At times, it can seem like your mind won’t slow down, or like something just feels “off,” even if you can’t fully explain why. I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, and significant life changes. Some clients come in feeling constantly on edge or caught in cycles of overthinking. Others feel shut down, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward after difficult or painful experiences. You may be holding a lot beneath the surface and trying to keep up with daily life while quietly burning out. Therapy offers a space to begin untangling those experiences. We can explore what you’ve been carrying, make sense of emotional and behavioral patterns, and gently work toward greater clarity and relief. This process isn’t about rushing or forcing change. It’s about building awareness, understanding your responses, and finding ways to support yourself that feel sustainable and real. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in meeting you where you are. I draw from evidence-based practices while keeping the work flexible and tailored to your needs. Some sessions may focus on understanding how anxiety shows up in your day-to-day life, while others may involve processing past experiences or navigating current stressors and relationships. I also work with individuals exploring identity, relationship dynamics, and the pressures that can come with trying to meet expectations—both internal and external. Many clients I see are used to being the ones who hold things together for others, and therapy becomes a place where they can finally focus on themselves. Over time, our work can help you feel more connected to yourself, more grounded in your emotions, and more confident in how you respond to challenges. The goal isn’t to eliminate difficulty altogether, but to help you move through it with greater ease, understanding, and self-trust. I offer virtual therapy for adults across New York State. I accept Cigna and Carelon, and offer sliding scale options when needed. If you’re considering therapy but aren’t sure where to begin, that’s completely okay. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out—just a willingness to take the next step.
